What exactly are we seeing here?

Believe it or not, we’re looking at the grand opening of a newly constructed Chick-fil-A down the road.

The fast food chicken joint?

Yup.

Hm. Those look like tents - are people camping out in the parking lot?

Charming as that would be, I’m pretty sure attendees returned home with full bellies soon after the midnight launch. Kids had school the next day, after all.

Wild. Is this sort of event common in Little Rock? I mean, I realize it’s a relatively small city and all but...

No, this is the first time I’ve ever seen anything like it. Totally out of left field.

The turnout’s really impressive - marketing must’ve been top-notch.

Perhaps. But in all likelihood a local congregation comprises the bulk, if not all, of the congregation.

Hm? Oh, gotcha. Not so left field, then.

So you’re an only child, huh?

Yup. That’s correct.

No brothers? No sisters?

Nope. Just me and my folks.

Is it true what they say? Are you only children a coddled, spoiled, lonely, egocentric bunch of oddballs? Or does the stereotype ring hollow? For what it’s worth, you seem like a decent enough guy to me.

Thanks. (smiles) I appreciate the vote of confidence. You know, it’s hard to say. I’m sure there’s an only child out there who fits the projection to a T - or at least appears to. As for myself...yeah, I suppose...shades of it anyway. But the traits you mentioned don’t strike me as especially unique to the only child character type, if there is such a thing. What were they, again? Coddled, lonely, spoiled...

Right. Now, by your estimation, do these traits at all describe you or one of your siblings?

Well, I guess it depends on who you ask. I’ve certainly got my moments.

No, not particularly. It’s simply an effort to present myself. That’s it, really.

Any overarching purpose or mission?

I might pick one up along the way. We’ll see.
